FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • The Rathlin Ferry Company website shows that the ferries are full, what can I do?

The Rathlin Ferry Company can only release a certain number of spaces for each ferry via their website (www.rathlinballycastleferry.com) - this often leads to our competitors thinking that the ferries are full.  In most instances, this is not the case, so we STRONGLY suggest that you contact the booking office on 028 2076 9299.

  • Can you register on the day?

No - online entries are accepted only.  Entries will be limited to 400, a combined number across both events, and considering the event has reached capacity previously, we would encourage everyone to enter early.

  • Do I need to sign in on the day?
Yes - although you have entered online, you MUST still proceed to the registration area on the morning of the race (Race HQ @ McCuigs Bar) to collect your race number and goody bag.  Due to the timing of the last ferry prior to race start, we encourage all participants to register as soon as possible when they arrive on the island.

  • Is there a minimum age to race?

Yes - for the 10 Mile event you must be 18 years old or over and for the 5k event you must be 11 years old or over.

  • Is there a cut off time?

No (for both events), but please remember that this is an officially permitted running event and as such, participants MUST not enter with the intention of walking the entire distance.  If it is obvious that this is your intention, you may be asked to withdraw from the event on health and safety grounds (as we cannot keep emergency services on stand-by to facilitate this).

  • Where can I leave my belongings while I run?

There will be a specified bag drop area near the finish line.  Please note that this area is not resourced at all times and belongings are left at your own risk.  The Rathlin Run take no responsibility for theft or damage to any belongings.

  • Are there water stations on the course?

Yes - Official water stations are located at 2.7 miles, 5.7 miles and 8.1 miles on the 10 mile course and at 1k and 4k on the 5k course.  There will also be water on the finish line for each competitor.  In line with Rathlin Island's involvement in the 'Cold Water Island' project, we will only be using eco friendly, biodegradable cups (supplied by Green Grate Bio Packaging) at our water stations.

  • Do you record my time?

Times will be recorded and results produced for the event..  As the timing is manual, it is ESSENTIAL that you wear your race number on the front of your t-shirt/vest/jacket and it MUST be visible at all times.  All results will be uploaded to the website as soon as practicable after the race.

  • When will I get my result?

Results will be published as soon as practicable after the race.  This is usually before 7pm on race day via www.rathlinrun.com.

  • Are there mile/kilometre markers on the course?

Yes - there are mile markers on the 10 mile route and km markers on the 5k route.

  • Can I run with music?

No - we understand that some runners like to train with headphones, but we will STRICTLY enforce UKA rules on wearing headphones during the race; this is for YOUR own and others safety.

  • Can I run with my dog?

As much as we love animals, unfortunately dogs (or any other animals) are NOT allowed on the course as part of our race.  This is against UKA rules.

  • I have entered the race but can no longer run, can I get a refund?

No - unfortunately we cannot offer refunds.  As soon as you enter the event, we commit to purchasing items for you, and thus, as a not for profit event, we would have to pay for these items if we gave you a refund - as a not for profit event, this would be unsustainable.  This is clearly explained in the event terms and conditions HERE.

  • Can I transfer my place to someone else?

This can only be allowed if it is transferred until Thursday 4th August 2022 (7pm) and using the official race transfer system operated by The Running Company.  You can manage your own registration and transfer the entry via the 'My Registration' link which is included on your confirmation email.  Any transfers requests from 04/08/2022 (7pm) will not be accepted as per terms and conditions of entry.  Anyone knowingly competing under someone else's name on the race day will be immediately disqualified. Please check your race pack at registration to ensure your details are correct.

  • I have entered the race but have not received a confirmation email

Please email runrathlin@gmail.com to ensure your entry has been recorded on our system.

  • What if I have won a prize at the event but cannot stay until the prize giving

Please speak to the Race Director who will ensure you receive your prize.  However, we would encourage everyone to make time to attend the prize-giving.

We must also make you aware that due to ferry timings, the prize giving must take place at 3pm, so please do not be offended if the prize giving has started if you finish after this time.

  • What are the ferry times?

Terms & Conditions of Entry:

REFUND / DEFERRAL
On accepting the terms and conditions on the entry form, should an athlete not be able to run, their entry fee will NOT be refunded, nor can they expect a deferral of an entry or pass that entry onto someone else.  Anyone found competing under another athlete's name will be disqualified immediately and banned from any future The Running Company event - this is a serious breach of health and safety.

FITNESS TO COMPETE
On accepting the terms and conditions on the entry form, it is the responsibility of the athlete to ensure that they are fit and healthy enough to compete at the event and if the case should arise that they are not fit / healthy enough to compete - they must NOT run!

CANCELLATION / POSTPONEMENT OF THE EVENT
Given the unique nature of the Rathlin Run and the essential ferry crossings, it is important to note the following BEFORE entering the race - Entry fees are also non-refundable if the race has to be cancelled or postponed due to circumstances outside of our control; for instance due to a major incident, adverse/dangerous weather conditions, cancellation of ferries to and/or from Rathlin Island or on Police / outside agency advice.

In the unlikely event that any of the above should occur, a new race will be set (if appropriate) and entries will be carried forward to this date giving suitable notice for athletes to make new arrangements.  Should an athlete not be able to attend the new date, unfortunately we cannot provide a refund.
